How much does an AI consultant cost?
AI consultancy is usually sold by the day, or by the month, and often ends in a strategy document. Mine is £500, one flat fee, paid before we start, for the whole set-up and the handover. There is no monthly fee from me afterwards.
The tool is a plan in your account: Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, typically £15 to £20 a month per seat, paid to the provider. The full breakdown is on AI marketing pricing.
Do I need an AI consultant, or can I do it myself?
You can do it yourself if you have the evenings. Most owners try ChatGPT, write three posts and stop, because the output could have come from anyone. It does not know the business, and nobody has time to teach it.
The set-up is the part that makes it stick: the business written down once, the tool taught to read it, and the jobs you repeat turned into skills. It is a one-off, so it is worth having done properly.
What does an AI consultant actually do for a small business?

Will it work with the tools I already use?
Usually. Your email, your CRM and your calendar stay where they are; the automations connect to them through Make, Zapier or a small script on your own hosting, whichever fits. If you already pay for an AI plan, that is the one I set up.
I do not resell a platform and I take no commission from any tool, so the recommendation is the one that suits you.
Is it safe to put my business into an AI tool?
On a paid business plan the providers do not train on your data, and everything sits in accounts in your name. Nothing personal goes into a tool without a written note of what and why.
And nothing customer-facing goes out without a person deciding it should, until you decide otherwise. If a workflow needs data I would not be comfortable sharing, it does not get built.
